Sarfaraz's 46 not out took Pakistan to win Asia Cup

Pakistan cricket team won the final of Asia Cup against Bangladesh on Thursday by two runs at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka. After a nail-biting performance from both sides, Pakistan managed to bowl out the panicked Bangladeshi players in the last ten overs.

 

Sarfraz Ahmed, who replaced Wahab Riaz, was the highest scorer for Pakistan who scored glorious unbeaten 46 runs. He also put on a quick partnership of 45 runs with Shahid Afridi to help stabilise the innings.

ABU DHABI: Pakistan recorded a stunning 72-run victory against top-ranked England within four days of the five-day second Test match here at the Sheikh Zayad Stadium on Saturday.

Pakistan also took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. This was Pakistan’s seventh Test series win against England.

Pakistan won the first Test in Dubai by ten wickets. The third Test will also be played in Dubai from February 3.

This is England's first series defeat after being unbeaten in their previous nine since their loss to the West Indies in early 2009 -- a sequence which saw them rise to world number one in the Test rankings in August last year.

PCB trying to get Indian broadcaster to buy televising rights

Ijaz Butt, the PCB Chairman, held a meeting with a leading broadcaster during his recent visit to India regarding the coverage rights of international matches hosted by Pakistan, the Times of India reported. Butt met with Zee TV network officials as they are the majority stakeholders of the Dubai-based Taj Entertainment Network (TEN), which has a contract with the PCB until 2012. The PCB has also already confirmed that its chief operating officer, Subhan Ahmad would be holding talks with BCCI officials over revival of bilateral ties and the dates for next year’s series, which is part of the ICC future tour programme.

Shoaib Malik for Zimbabwe tour

Pakistan have recalled former captain and all-rounder Shoaib Malik to the squad for next month’s tour of Zimbabwe, the PCB said on Sunday. Malik’s inclusion comes after a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) integrity committee cleared him of any wrong doing last week after an investigation into his finances.

Coach Waqar Younis resigns over personal reasons

Pakistan cricket coach Waqar Younis resigned Saturday, citing personal reasons, in the latest setback to hit the troubled team that has been riven by in-fighting and corruption scandals.

The 39-year-old former fast bowler took over as coach in March 2010, but has since faced controversies including the spot-fixing scandal that led to lengthy bans for three cricketers, dissent from players, and differences with former one-day captain Shahid Afridi.

Pakistan squad for Zimbabwe

Pakistan cricket Board on Thursday named a new look young side for the tour of Zimbabwe banking upon the talent of domestic cricketer performers by including three uncapped players while recalling opener Imran Farhat from wilderness. Pak team will tour Zimbabwe from August 28 to play two, T-20 matches, three one day internationals and one test.

PHF issued ultimatum to players

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has issued an ultimatum to the players, asking them to step up their performances or face the music. Addressing a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium, PHF Secretary Asif Bajwa said that the federation did not discriminate between the seniors and juniors, insisting that it was only their performance that mattered. “For the federation, senior and junior players are the same. It is only their performance that matters. We see these players as members of the national team. There is no concept of juniors and seniors within the squad,” said Bajwa.

“All the players play for Pakistan, and only those who perform consistently will be retained in the future while the others will no longer be part of our plans.”

The PHF secretary further said that the federation has achieved its targets to a certain extent. “The targets have been achieved through the recent tour to Europe and other training matches.
